Editor’s note: Emma Connelly is a resident of Gaffney and was recently crowned Miss Boiling Springs Teen. Her social impact initiative is Community Opportunity. She hopes to encourage everyone to find a local service organization that best suits their interests and abilities.

The Humane Society of Cherokee County is an animal shelter that aims to protect and assist vulnerable animals. They take placements from the Cherokee County Animal Shelter as well as ownersurrendered animals and rescues of their own.

Jackie Smith, a leader at the Humane Society, handles most of the daily operations for the group. She says that the main way you can help is by donating wet and dry cat and dog food, high-quality puppy pads, and pet litter. While citizens might like to make thoughtful gifts of pet toys and cat litter, these cannot be used, due to the living arrangements of the animals.

In addition, Smith asks all pet owners to please focus on taking proper care of their own animals, which includes getting them spayed or neutered and making sure they’ve had their shots. The key to having happy animals is to keep them healthy.

If you’d like to assist this organization, the best way to contact the Humane Society is through Facebook Messenger. They check this page frequently, and they keep it updated with their needs and information about the current animals available for adoption.

Pictured above with Smith is a sweet two-yearold female cat waiting on her forever home. Her name is Willow, and she would love to live inside with a caring family. If you’re interested in adopting sweet Willow or another deserving animal, please contact the Humane Society.

If you would like to donate food or other animal supplies, you can easily do that by dropping your donation on the back steps at 238 Beaver Dam Road. The Humane Society greatly appreciates any help you can give.
